NexStar & SkyQ Link..............
      #6397308 - 02/25/14 10:35 PM

Does anyone know if these products will work well with the NexStar+ Virtual Hand Controller and SkyQ Link WiFi Adapter?

nexremote/virtual hand controller is a PC only app.. The SkYQ software is a tablet app or a PC app. using the SkyQ PC app, you can have nexremote connect to the SkyQ wifi adapter.

Why would you need nexremote?

I am so used to using the PC and nexremote virtual hand controller I neglected how an app may operate the system on a tablet......Do you think the products mentioned will do the job?

Doubtful. You could try using the Celestron cell phone app to send the scope to gotos (SkyQ). But it most assuredly doesn't work with my CG5 or VX, and I do not believe it will work with _any_ GEM. Using NexRemote with a laptop and the SkyQ Link? It does work with my CG5. It does NOT work with my VX. Basically, the SkyQ link is serving as a paperweight around here. I am thinking about demoting it to the role of cat toy soon.

You know, I'm beginning to feel the same way........If only Celestron created a wireless hand controller........

They are talking about things like that I understand. Whatever they do, I hope it works better than the useless SkyQ Link they sold me.

If you want a wireless hand control, your best bet is NexRemote and a wireless Logitech gamepad.

The problem with that is that I would have to haul it around, which ain't gonna happen.

The new Cosmos navigator app looks to be the solution. Designed in conjunction with and, at least going by the screenshots of the app, looks like skysafari pro 4. Then any idevice and hopefully android device can be used to control the telescope

For some, maybe. I bought the SkyQ Link to run NexRemote from a laptop to the VX wirelessly. Verdict. NO WORKEE.

The implementation of the skyq has been less than ideal to put it kindly. I am able to run Nextremote wirelessly. I purchased it to run the scope with an ipad. Maybe Celestron can come up with a solution to make everyone happy.

I actually got this working by using a serial to bluetooth adapter and the celestron serial cable from the avx into the adapter. The computer thinks the link is physical, so you can use anything that talks to the mount, including stellarium. I initially started doing this to use GPS from my android phone into the mount, and I have a writeup on that procedure here: http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6347457/Main...

Have our tried Celestron's Knowledgebase article on "How do I use SkyQ with my wireless-connected W...

I don't have my SkyQ unit with me for the next couple of months, but remember linking it to NextRemote with no issues (SE mount). I presume it's an issue with the latest GEM mounts then?

An interesting news imo is that apparently the new SkyPortal app (iOS and android, based on SkySafari4) is suppose to work with SkyQ, although not officially supported. Good riddance to the old SkyQ app which never worked properly and was dismal app overall imo. Hope to give it try in Aug.

imo, save your money and skip the cheap android tablets, and save yourself a load of grief. My suggestion would be for the Nexus7 if you can spring for it.

I had no problem using it in this fashion with the CG5. It would not work with the VX, however. Alas.
