Grandfather AR1944 Animation
      #6406345 - 03/02/14 07:01 PM

Hello, Everyone,

Terrible weather here so I've been amusing myself with animating sequences of drawings of the Daystar.

The current energetic Active Region 1990 is the third iteration of AR1944. While not unheard of, an active region which holds together for three solar rotations is *very* unusual. Hence this animation of AR1990 back when it made its first appearance as AR1944.

Click on the thumbnail for the larger version. Best to all.

That is just so cool Michael! Nice capture of the changes in shape and positions of the sunspots as the active region rotates in and out of view.

Michael,

That is very fine. You might as will be doing something useful in this hobby as we all wait out the weather.
It has not been a good winter for observing and sketching across the middle and northern states.
Hurry springtime.

Frank

Rich, Frank, T5, Uwe, Ken, Tom, Jef---thanks to all of you for your comments.

@Rich--good to hear from you!

@Frank--you're right. It's been bad for lots of people. Not too much longer, I hope (although I have been trying to take advantage of the snowy situation by teaching myself how to cross-country ski around my place).

In my original post, I should have mentioned that along with showstopper AR1944, one can see that many smaller active regions appeared and disappeared over the 8 day period that the animation records. Also, the sketches were done in the field with HB, 2B, and 6B graphite pencils and a blending stump.

Clear skies!
