If anyone sees an ES82 14mm or 6.7mm in stock... new
      #6429632 - 03/26/14 03:59 AM

Tell me please!Has anyone seen either of these pieces in stock anywhere at all?!?! I've pretty much decided on these eyepieces for the rest of my collection, but I haven't seen them in stock anywhere since pretty much the start of the year! What gives?!?!?

I recently bought my first ES68 eyepiece from Don Pensack at Eyepieces Etc. - I got the 24mm. Very happy with the purchase and the service. I hoping I get the chance to buy again from either him or the folks at Astronomics because I'd like to support the folks that make this community possible, and those who through their contribution make it great.

Welcome to the ES FanClub....the line forms to the rear. Love their eyepieces....hate their business practice. Waited OVER a year for the ES68 24mm, ordered the 9mm 100* in July 2013....still not here, finally saved up enough and got the 8mm Ethos instead. ES definitely needs to start holding its mfgrs feet to the fire, especially with the price increases.

You might try here. You might need to confirm they actually have them and they aren't on backorder although one explicitly says "ships in two days" so that would seem to be a good sign...

Funny there have been a lot of folks saying how much they did not care for the ES 14mm 82 eyepeice. I owned one and thought is was a good eyepeice but end up giving it to a freind because I just did not use it that much. Lots of folks swear the ES 11mm 82 is the best and for a long time you could not find them they were all on back order so go figure, one day your hot the next your not.... . Good luck hope you find and get one soon.

If you do order directly from ES, make sure you tell them more than ONCE that you do not want UPS. I did this and they STILL sent a 9mm ES 100 that replaced a slightly defective unit via UPS and I was charged $57.72 for the delivery!

I was also told they would look into reimbursing me for it. That didn't happen either.

WHAT A JOKE!

Look for used ep's in the classifieds and S&S, they come up fairly often.

That may be the ONLY avenue. I suspect that we may not see many more eyepieces in the line from ES. My belief is that stuff like eyepieces and objectives are made in 1 or 2 runs, and after they are sold out, they are gone.

E.g., look at all the eyepiece lines that have recently "disappeared". Astro-Tech Paradigms, Baader BGOs, Meade UWA and SWA, TMB PII... all gone in recent times.

I am sure ES has an order in, somewhere, for replacement eyepieces. They just may have a different form-factor, and be from different manufacturer.

I also waited about a year for the ES68 24, and the ES82 14. They both seem to be great eyepieces, though; I've used the 14 only briefly so far but I had no issue with the reputed field curvature.

Some of the ES offerings seem to be available forever (like the 100-deg 20mm at $300, or even the N2 82-deg 24mm), but I've seen Don Pensack post that the 14 is the hottest seller in the 1.25" 82 lineup. It seems that ES' supplier just can't keep up. That is a shame, but I don't doubt the 14 will be available again.

I got the ES 24mm 68 degree rather quickly this December, but the 9mm 100 deg has been back-ordered since New Years.

IF they are in stock, it will say "In Stock" at the bottom of the picture and below the price. I've ordered a lot of stuff from High Point and gotten excellent service.

The AT Paradigms are still in production just under different names. The BGO's were discontinued because the company owner became to ill to work. The Meade UWA, and SWA were made by the same company that owns E.S.. So I think when Meade was bought by a competitor the E.S. parent company decided not to provide eyepieces anymore. When I asked Astronomics about the TMB PII they said that the eyepieces were out of production, not discontinued. Actually the TMB PII are still in production just under different names. Although I suspect the TMB PII's being produced now are unauthorized copies.

Shane, I think the AP SPLs and TMB Supermonos had that history, but I'm sure the ES lines are here to stay. If the AT Paradigms aren't in stock, you can find them under other brand names right this moment.

I have the mushroom top in the 24mm & 30mm and they're all as good as my purged 18mm and below.....they do weigh a ton however. The 30mm weighs in at 3.08lbs.

I'm also looking for the 14mm and 6.7mm 82* nitrogen/argon purged to finish off my set.
I placed an order at Canadian Telescopes around Christmas time while they were on sale.
They eventually canceled my order as they were getting tired of me asking about it every week or so, and they knew that when they became available again they could not supply them at the sale price...
I don't care if there on sale or not, I just want to complete my set.
If anyone seems them in stock please let me know as well.

Thanks

Steve

I just bought the 18 and the 24. No problem finding those.

I guess people don't like 2 inch eyepieces.
