10" Astro-Tech truss tube R-C now in stock
      #6432840 - 03/27/14 06:08 PM Attachment (51 downloads)

The new Astro-Tech 10" carbon fiber truss tube Ritchey-Chrétien optical tubes are in stock at Astronomics. They join the 12" and 16" Astro-Tech truss tube R-Cs and the soon to come 8" and 20" truss tube R-Cs in the Astro-Tech truss tube R-C lineup. If you are serious about deep space imaging, this AT10RCT 10" truss tube R-C may be the last optical tube you'll ever need to buy.

Here's a link to the Astronomics AT10RCT page: https://www.astronomics.com/10-f8-truss-tube-ritchey-chrtien-optical-tube_p20... Take a look at it and all of the Astro-Tech truss tube R-Cs at Astronomics. We think you'll like what you see.

All the new truss tube models look great. I love the flats, which will prevent the ota from rolling away on a table or counter. Also, the tubes are a great hand hold when mounting up the ota.

Question, since the truss tube models do not have the baffles present in the solid tube carbon fiber models, how is spurious light and reflections handled in this model? Or is it an issue at all?

Best...Paul

Paul,

I would figure a shroud like on other truss scopes would work on these as well. They sure do look awesome.

Clear skies,

Agreed, I'm surprised that some enterprising seamstress has not already offered them for sale...:)

AstroZap has said they will be making shrouds for the truss tube R-Cs. They will appear on the Astronomics and AstroZap websites as soon as they are available.

I love my AT6RC steel OTA but do not like my AT8RC carbon fiber OTA I wonder in which camp the trust tube AT10RCT would fall if I were to get one

Is the focuser attached to the primary like the AT6RC / AT8RC ?

The AT10RCT sure looks nice and the price point is attractive.

When will the 8" truss be available?

The focuser is attached to the central baffle tube and mirror cell, like the 8" and solid tube 10". The Astro-Tech FCR1012 focuser collimating rings allow the focuser to be collimated independently from the baffle tube/cell.

While they are in preliminary design work on an 8". the 20" has priority. The 20" prototype is due, fingers crossed, in May. Physical constraints due to the 8" optical system's tube length and the diameters of the carbon fiber tubes currently available may unfortunately make an 8" truss tube impractical. Whether it can be done remains to be seen. The current 8" versions (solid tube carbon fiber and steel tube) are the only versions available at this time. Time will tell on an 8" truss tube.

Any idea what would be the final weight of the 20"?

Thanks

Since the prototype has not been completed and weighed, we don't know for sure. 100 pounds? Probably more, since it is going to come with an Astro-Physics-based P-style dovetail plate.
