Mars 22nd March in 100mm 28th March in 254mm cass.
      #6437751 - 03/30/14 01:01 PM Attachment (50 downloads)

Here are some observations performed with the 100mm refactor and in the 254mm cassegrain.
The seeing did his job for reducing the difference.
Image 10/10 the best.

Thanks for your witness.
It is amazing to catch half tone contrasted features on this side. The cassegrain could allow to see deeper the boundaries of Chaos for example appearing in seeing holes as lines as dots linked between by less dark bridges.
It is needed more steady momments for defining them acurately.
The site here is too average for making better, the optimum aperture size remain 4" only, may be 6". The images were only 6/10 at the best in the 4", 10/10 the best.

For an "average" site, these sure look good to me. Much better than I can do.

Matter of seeing quotation.
5-6/10 represents what is seen on a star highly magnified, airy disk 1st ring, mostly. There are holes on this general figure, but here, momments of steadiness were very short, say less than the 1 sec. time.

Thanks Kris and Tamas.
I did some observations yesterday with the 100mm refractor using the RG435 filter (150-190x). Features were strongly deemer sothat when at the 22nd March with so defined details in blue channal, we may think to blue-clearing event on the 22nd last.
There is no enough data from my side for a firm conclusion but some others may have.
Please bring them here.
Stanislas-Jean

Here is the report performed last 1st April performed with the 100mm refractor achromat.
Brightenings at limbs.
Brightenings quotations in different channel colors.
In blue channel the contrast levels are substantially deemer than on last 22nd.
Blue clearing on the 22nd period (no enough personal data to confirm this)possible.
Stanislas

Thanks a lot.
The 1st April sketches show the fact that views in IL are not enough.
Brightness of the clouds noted in IL has different responses versus the color channel.
Blue clearing remains also on interrest with some variations it seems. The RG435 filter is well centered for visual observations in these views. But some complementary data with W47 or near UV filters are also needed for a comparison (too dark in a 100mm, begins OK in a 250mm).
Still the double check acquisition for confirming data by ourselves.
Stanislas-Jean

I transferres the subject to "Solar system observing":
Mars last 6th: mist rather than white clouds?
regarding the nature of the clouds observed.

Very nice sketches of Mars. Good small optics and an experience observer combine well on this planet!
