Transporting Atlas Mount?
      #6437879 - 03/30/14 02:28 PM

I have been transporting my atlas mount head in it's original box since I acquired it but the box is in really poor shape now and I'm looking for other options. Thanks in advance to any and all who reply.

I made a wood box that the mount fits in as if it's mounted on the tripod. The box also holds the tripod spreader, hand controller and guide scope.

Phil
Would it be possible to post a photo of the box you built?

If you can't Afford the pelican case go to home depot or lowe's and look for the Totes that have clamps and get some pluck foam. Some even have wheels on one side.

Not for a while. The mount is packed away now, around an hour from my house. I'll have it available during the last half of April and can post a photo then.

I'll see if I can get a photo of the Sirius box I built - the same thing but smaller.

Phil

Depends on what you want. If you don't care about "pretty" and are just transporting the mount by car, you can do what I did: Trot down to Walmart and pick up the appropriate sized Rubbermaid like plastic storage container for it. Stop by the craft department on the way to the checkout and get you some foam for padding. You are then DONE to the tune of about 10 bucks. Not as pretty as a Pelican, but just as effective, and you can use the money you save at the dadgum green-front store like I did.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to have to do something about the situation soon. That box the mount was delivered in is in truly bad shape. I am going to miss it. What I liked best is it didn't add much weight to the mount itself. That beast is a real bourdon even though I only lift it from bench top level in the garage, to tail gate high on the truck, then tripod height. It also took up just the right amount of bed space to keep tripods, chairs, ect. from sliding around on the drive to my dark sight..... I may have just talked myself into another card board box and some stuffing. Thanks again,
You all are the best,
-Bob

I keep my EQ 6 in one of those suit cases with the wheels on it. Counter weights and all. It just fits.

Then I stuff an extra piece of foam in the suitcase to hold it all in place, close it up and away we go.

It is a bit heavy to lug up the stairs, but once I am out, the wheels do all the work.
