EQ 1 - loose worm screw
      #6441801 - 04/01/14 03:29 PM

Hello, I have a eq-1 mount for a 90mm mak. It was working fine, but now I have started seeing alot of extra "play" in it's movement. Where it's locked and I can "push" it. I've noticed that the worm screw is un-screwing itself as I turn the slow motion control.

It appears that, from the few images I've seen of eq mounts, that either these are totally covered (nicer mounts) or there is a locking nut.

Anyone with EQ-1 knowledge can confirm that there should be a locking nut? (If so, which nut and washer so I can fix it) Or if not, then how can I fix this to stop the play and have worm gear work as expected?

Thanks!

The two EQ1s that I had had very flimsy worm blocks. So much so that tightening the lock nuts to take up the slack cracked both worm blocks.

I'm afraid that you may encounter the same issue if you try to tighten up that worm. The bottom line is that EQ1s really are pretty much garbage.

I got one as a package deal with the 102mm Mak

When used in Alt-Az mode it works fine
