Petavius (April 3, 2014)
      #6447644 - 04/04/14 05:06 PM Attachment (23 downloads)

I made a digital observation (based upon a pencil drawing) of the crater Petavius on April 3, 2014 (00:30 U.T.) using a Celestron 8-inch (20-cm) F/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain at 170x under average (5-6/10 seeing conditions with moments of steady seeing. I noted a wealth of detail over the floor and walls of the crater that were difficult to render. The Moon was 3.2 days old and the colongitude was 305.26ş. I hope that you all like it.

Regards,
Carlos

Jef, Rich,Tamas, and Tom

Thank you all very much for the compliments on my Petavius observation. This is a fascinating crater to observe and render and I never tire of reviewing it at different sun angles. The rimae is very interesting and the wall structure very complex and difficult to render perfectly. The best of luck in your own observations.

A slightly different view of Petavius from July 31, 2007 ( http://www.cloudynights.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=11195&password=... )

Regards,
Carlos

Carlos

An excellent rendition of Petavius. I find Petavius rather difficult being so close to the edge, You caught it just right!

Chuck
