Steve,
I have earlier (many years ago) clearly noticed a yellow tone in a Carl Zeiss Jena Notarem 10x40. The same thing is typical with russian optics.
It's possible that as well Oberwerk and Minolta have a yellow tone, but I am convinced that this tone cannot be nearly of the same level as the Notarem or the russian ones. The yellow tone of Oberwerk and Minolta (and other cheaper chinese ones) you may not notice without comparison to another binocular, but the yellow tone in the Notarem and the russian ones was for me directly noticable without comparison.
Once I tried a russian 20x50 spottingscope, and looked at the snow, which appeared as looking through a yellow filter. (It's not the same one as in my signature). But I cannot say that the snow seems to be yellow through my oberwerk or Minolta. It's obviously a significant differens between those. I think it's more correct to say that the new Zeiss and Swarovski have a more white tone than to say that the chinese have a more yellow...

I'll second Patric's comment regarding color in Russian optics: I have a pair or two of Russian binoculars, one of which shows a view so yellow that it is unpleasant to use. It's a shame considering the optics are otherwise fine. The other pair's view is much less saturated with a yellow tint, but it still might be characterised as slightly warm.

Color cast may be very user subjective.
When I'm viewing at my scopes with a variety of eyepieces, if I look through my left eye, a bright moon may have a slight yellow cast. When I switch to my right eye, the cast is seen as a glaring white.

Well spotted Ed.
I might add that this kind of thing is VERY common with binoculars too .
Just try it and see for yourselves :-)

Hi All, EDZ, Very true words. I believe a LOT of things pertaining to Binoculars are "VERY USER SELECTIVE" ,and if we all saw things exactly the same way, Then, this forum, and a lot of others would get very boring, very quickly.

A bit off topic but,the TV plossls are TeleVue"s finest planetary eyepiece. No question at all! Fiske,Im sorry but,European"s don"t prefer a yellow cast on their binoculars, this is the reason why I got rid of my CZJ 10x50 Dekarems. I always thought they were qutie neutral until,a side by side comparison with the Zeiss FL. I must say though this yellow cast was not an issue for Astronomy. Steve.
Steve:
I'm very pleased with my TV plossls down to 15mm. I don't have an 11mm. Frankly, the 8mm doesn't compare at all favorably with my 7mm UO Abbe Ortho. I also did a side by side comparison between the 7mm UO and my 7mm Nagler Type 6 and came away with even more respect for the Type 6. As sharp as the UO ortho is, the Nagler Type 6 is right there with it -- maybe even sharper. Anyway, I own 7 and 5mm Nagler Type 6s and they are my standard planetary eyepieces now. I use them with a barlow on my XT-8 for aprox. 350x and 480x.
But, this is really a conversation for another forum...
