New eyepiece? (reposted in Classic Telescopes)
      #64850 - 03/03/04 10:53 AM

I have an old (30+ yrs) refractor 60mm/910mm with a 0.965" HM 10mm eyepiece.

I have a few questions:

1) Would it make sense to buy a new eyepiece?

if yes:

2) Would it make sense to buy a 0.965" to 1.25" converter

3) What type of eyepiece is good enough for this scope?

I also wear glasses so eye relief is important.

oort, post this question in the Classic Telescope section also. Several people have done this recently.

oort, welcome to the group. As Tom mentioned, there are some threads on this in the Classic Telescope section. You have several alternatives here:

1) If you have the right size focus tube (36.4mm) you can get an adaptor that screws into it and allows you to use 1-1/4" diagonals and eyepieces.
2) Get a hybrid diagonal and use 1-1/4" eyepieces.
3) Look on Astromart for some 0.965" eyepieces. With your f15 scope (910mm/60mm) you'll be fine with Kellner designs like the Meade MA. Some decent ones are for sale right now:

For Sale: 0.965 Kellner Eyepieces $17.00

Give us some more info on the scope and what you can spend and we can give some more specific recommendations.
