Skywatcher 6 inch Dob pics
      #6486491 - 04/24/14 08:35 PM Attachment (50 downloads)

I wanted to put a couple pictures up for anyone looking to purchase this Telescope. I found it hard to find a photo of the focuser specifically. This is a friend's scope and I had the chance to try it out and I was pretty impressed how well it performed. The 35mm Panoptic was fantastic in this.

I have one to compliment my 8" SW Dob and my SW ST 120mm refractor. It gives great views and handles 2" wide field EP's very well. I highly recommend one for both beginners and the more experienced astronomers if they want a relatively low cost ($299 Canadian) which could be taken as a borderline Grab & Go scope.

I, also, have affinity with 6in f8 otas.

I notice the skywatcher looks exactly like the discontinued celestron 6in f8 dobs. A plus to me.

Good viewing,

Dave

I enjoy them as well. Clean images no fussing with a paracorr, small and light.

And really can show you a lot of objects!

Yeah, I kind'a like 'em, too. The 2" focuser on the Skywatcher is a big plus to hold big, heavy eyepieces or a binoviewer.

Nice scopes! The one is Orion and the other is? Any premium 6 inch optics on board?

The strut Dob took me about a year to make and has been in use for about as long. It has the original Synta mirrors that came with the XT6 which are good for low to medium mags. Very easy to handle, weighs 28 pounds, and has super smooth movements. It's sweet! The XT6 tube houses premium mirrors, which outperform the Synta mirrors by more than double, and has been modded to the hilt for planetary performance (Planet Killer). One of the mods included installing a 2" focuser to hold my binoviewer securely.

The 6" f/8 scopes are relatively light and easy to handle, once collimated they stay adjusted well, acclimate quickly, work with all but the crappiest eyepieces, and give very good performance on planets and DSOs. The Sky-Watcher looks like a really good option.

What brand of Premium mirrors are you using? Yea the skywatcher is pretty good but the focuser is pretty poor. I woudn't complain because it's a 2 inch but if it was mine a Moonlight would be on order quickly lol.

The mirrors are the Pyrex offerings from Discovery. They didn't break the bank and are a big improvement over the production mirrors, especially at high magnification on planets. The Discovery primary is a true 6" f/8, which the Synta was not, and took a little machining of the primary cell to fit.
