The Delight of Sarah's Galaxy

NGC 3628 is always fun to look at...whether widefield with M65/M66 or by itself. We had a chance to sit and study it for a bit in April, which yielded this story and sketch. There is religious content.

Tech note: I have been pleased, once all the quirks were fixed, with an IQ45 mount with a C8, which was now being used more than a 12.5 Dob. Enjoy the Dob, but the 45 is steady, Go-to is decent, and the astro-video makes an excellent way to make the combo sing. To boot...it's all still pretty portable. Makes sketching/studying easier.

Roland,

An excellent observation of a famous member of the Leo Triplet, NGC 3628. This is a striking edge-on galaxy as you have recorded. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

I am glad that the IQ45 equatorial mount is working out well for you and Linda. It will make it easier to move around.

The best of luck to you and Linda.

Regards,
Carlos

Roland,

This galaxy is the most interesting member of the Leo triplet to look at.
Your sketch of NGC 3628 shows very fine dust lanes.

Frank

Thanks Carlos and Frank. It really is a nice target with astro-video because some of the detail kicks in. Hope to do it again sometime with the same video cam but someone else's larger aperture. The problem: you then really need a couple hours of solid sketching to get all the detail! For now, I was just tickled to do it with the 8.
