I used my loved 8 cm refractor for that task. Magnification was 120x. The image is mirror reversed.

Hello Uwe,

again a great pencil sketch! Additionally it's interesting to see the sun rising over this great pair of craters when comparing with my Atlas sketch of Saturday evening.

P.S. I corrected a typo in the Subject line

The side by side really makes for a fine piece to study. Well done Uwe. Extra good you got the 80mm out!

Pete

Uwe,

These are wonderful. I really like these two sketches.
I would say these are your very best lunar sketches thus far.
Excellent post.

Frank

Thank you for your comments.

Dear Frank,

that is astounding because it was a "fast sketch". I was tired and would go to bed, but the moon looked the nice. The instrument was outside and cooled down so I decided to make at least a small sketch. I started with Hercules which is not too large, then added Atlas and come eventually to the outline of ghost crater Atlas E, which actual deserves more devotion. But I was tired too much.

Uwe,

As you know sometimes everything goes well and quick and very easy. It is nice when it happens.

Superb sketch Uwe! Hercules and Atlas are rendered with great attention to their relative sizes and positions. Beautiful detail in the shadows and the floor craters. I like the way you handled that somber lava filled floor of Atlas. Wonderful sketch!
