My Saturn Attempt new
      #6597696 - 06/23/14 03:28 PM Attachment (32 downloads)

Hi fellow stargazers,

Here is my 1st attempt at planetary imaging. Celestron CPC 1100, ZWO ASI120mm with Firecapture. AutoStakkert for processing and Astra Image 4.0 to adjust wavelets. I was trying to add as a thumbnail! Does anyone have any pointers as to adding color to this image? Thanks!

To add color, you need three separate mono images one each taken with a R, G and B filter.

Can you give some details as to how this image was obtained? Number of frames, how long the avi was, what, if any, barlow was used, what kind, if any, filter was used?

It's a nice crisp image.

Paul,
Thanks for your kind reply. I've only had my scope since December and my ZWO ASI120mm for about 2 weeks. I took a 3 minute capture @ 85 frames/second for 15000 frames total. I used FireCapture set at 512 x 440 to achieve this. Once completed I used AutoStakket to process then Astra Image 4.0 to sharpen. No barlow was used, but I have a TeleVue 2.5x powermate coming. I used a Celestron Light Pollution Reduction (LPR) Filter because of light pollution in town. Clear Skies.

You need colored filters to give you color.

In addition to the color filters, you'd be better off at an effective focal ratio of between F18 and F25 with that camera - your 2.5x Powermate should drop you nicely into that range once you receive it.

It doesn't look like many frames were stacked, either (noise level is high). I'd be targeting at least 1200 frames, preferably more than 3,000 or so.

Then you have to wait for at least semi-decent seeing - THAT is the part you have almost no control over
