Rich,
Thanks for the great picture. Aren't binoculars beautiful? They're just like little gems.

didn't wipe off the gray film that forms on the Leica BA armor. Although, the flash makes that gray film stand out more than the normal lighting.
My Leica 10x32 Trinovids got that gray film too. I now have the 10x32 Ultravids and so far no gray film has developed.

Hi, At the moment I use as my favorite a pair of canons IS 15x50. They are unbelievably good, not only the stabilising part, but also the optics, sharp to the edge and almost no color. With their 4.5 degree field they are very nice to sit back and swap large pieces of sky. Without the IS however the fun is partially gone and I would not use them that often. I used to do a lot of sweeping with a vintage pair of 10x70,but they have two disadvantages 1) the 10x mag is really not enough to identify all but the biggest objects, altough it is great to see the dark rifts in the summer milky way. 2) 7 mm exit pupil gives you a very ease of observing, but vignetting will take please as my eyes grow older. In comparison the canons definitely show more than the 10x70 in any way, so the 10x70 have become obsolete. Someone out ther wants them? If we are talking about tripod mounted binocs then I have only one philosophy... As big as possible. I did a lot of observing with a pair of straight through 25x100 apogees, but a week ago i purchased a 45 degrees oberwerk 25/40x100 mastodont (26 pounds). Unbelievable the difference with the Apogees (well aftyer all they are 4 times as expensive and 3 times as heavy). I am addicted to these. Even in a very bad hazy sky, the amount of details in for instance M42 is unbelievable... 4 stars in the trapezium ,and 4 in sigma orionis . The field is so flat and sharp compared to cheaper binocs. I think these will be my favorite. I might still consider a pair of (stabilised) 8x42 or someting like that having a 8+ degree field . To resume my favourites 1) handheld canon IS15x50... highly recomandable 2) tripod mount OBerwerk 45 degrees 25/40x100 clear skies michiel from holland

Michiel,
Can you clarify which one of the Oberwerk 25/40X 100 you own. The dual power, 26lb 25/40X Oberwerk I am aware of is the one with EPs(straight thru) on rotating turrets:
http://www.bigbinoculars.com/8066.htm
Didn't know there is a dual power model with 45 deg EPs.
I too have had a 25X100 for about 3 years. I've been searching for a bigger, better bino for sometime but I have a tough time convincing myself going with another 100mm binocular twice the length, 3X the wt and four times the bulk just to reach 40X is the way to go for me....

I have echoed to myself your last paragraph Erik. To this day I still ask myself if I was crazy when I got my BT100. Because of the BT100 bulk, I use it quite infrequently. I wish this was not so, but I live on the 2nd floor of a house with narrow spiraling staircases. When I pack the BT100 for a trip to NH and Maine....THEN...I'm glad I have one.

Who took my recent posts out of this thread and started a new thread? And, why?
I would not have picked the title for the new thread. It sounds a little like braging and not one I would have used but it has my name attached as if I had started it.

I did Rich.
I thought the photo had a great title, and felt it made a good topic.
Don't think of it as bragging, I certainly didn't.
It was leading towards comparing several binoculars, which has nothing to do with this thread.
It definitely stands alone on its own merit.
You did start it. Go ahead take it and run with it.

Hi ED,
Could you put a copy of the "family photo" also in this thread? That one post was still in keeping with the subject of this thread.
I didn't used the word "Famous".
I tried to send a message to Joe "off line" before I posted a question about the move on this threadlast, but it didn't seem to be working. Likely it was operator error (my fault).

I use Leica 8x50's and Zeiss 15x60's at night (neither is in the poll).
Rich, I also only use mine hand-held. I have a very nice parallelogram mount for binoculars, but after using it with Fuji 16x70's I have found that for the hassle of setting it up I would much rather set up a small scope and use a binoviewer. Sold the Fujis.
