A new forum has begun for the discussion of all things Questar, and whatever else tickles our fancies. Rules are the same as over on Yahoo: Stay mainly on topic, use good judgement, and keep it civil. Help us maintain high standards by using proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and capitalization. It's probably a good idea to post on the Yahoo group as well if you are a member there.
Let the discussion begin!

FWIW, it looks like there is an option to receive a daily digest of the forum, accesible from the preferences.

“If the pure and elevated pleasure to be derived from the possession and use of a good telescope…were generally known, I am certain that no instrument of science would be more commonly found in the homes of intelligent people. There is only one way in which you can be sure of getting a good telescope. First, decide how large a glass you are to have, then go to a maker of established reputation, fix upon the price you are willing to pay-remembering that good work is never cheap-and finally see that the instrument furnished to you answers the proper tests for telescopes of its size. There are telescopes and there are telescopes….”

Greetings to all. I have joined your group and have enjoyed reading the many and various posts to this forum. Finally acquired a Questar a couple months ago after using one in college and while teaching many years ago. They're just great aren't they ? So, thanks for having this forum !

Hi..I'm brand new to this forum (signed-up today!). I've bought my first Questar and I'm waiting for it to arrive next week..can hardly wait! I've wanted one since I graduated high-school in 1964. It's a 1997 3.5" duplex pyrex BB, five eyepieces, 2 solar filters, etc. Won it on Ebay. What's the learning curve to use it correctly? Any suggestions as to what I should look at first..outside of the beauty of the scope as it comes out of the shipping box!? Lenny

Welcome to the forum, Lenny, and congratulations on getting your Questar. They truly are a masterpiece of Optical and Mechanical Engineering. If yours doesn't come with an Instruction Manual, you can obtain one from Questar for around $20.00. It is very informative, and will certainly get you started in the right direction.
Happy viewing, Larry

Lenny, another excellent tutorial is on the Yahoo website. If not a member, you will probably have to join. Click on Groups, then Questar, links, Using Questar Telescopes, Drew University ( bottom of page). Very informative!
Good luck, Larry

Hi all, joined the Questar owner's ranks two weeks ago with a "new" 1976 3.5 with BB coatings and Zerodur mirror (ebay). Externally it looks virtually new. And after disassembling/cleaning/reassembly of the optical tube components and correcting the "out of order" lenses in the 16mm eyepiece (wouldn't come to focus in the finder - gotta wonder about the PO), it also works perfectly! The scope is an absolute delight to use. Since I got it my Celestron 8, which I bought new in 1980 has been unused.
