Just couple of days ago I got dew shield for my 14” LX200, very nice one by Pro Star. Aluminum, with felt lining inside and plastic screws. Painted blue for exact match with telescope… But it is quite heavy… It seemed to me that drives were overloaded while slewing to objects, is there are any danger to gears and motors while using telescope with dew shield attached? Do I need to get some kind of counterbalance?

That much imbalance is gonna be a problem. The scope is front-heavy from the factory and adding that much metal that far away from the DEC axis makes it worse. Peterson Engineering sells a weighted ring that mounts on the rear of the scope around the SCT threads that will solve it.

John, thanks for info. I put my dew shield on the scope tonight and I took it off right a way, the gears struggle so much that I couldn't stand that noise. I put some pressure on the rear cell and it really helped. I am getting the weighted ring for sure. Thanks
