Zeiss 15x60's back?
      #86304 - 04/06/04 10:59 PM

Hi,
When i Google Zeiss 15x60 classics i find them listed on a few sites (camera places) with text saying that hunters demanded they be brought back. But sites i am used to, do not list them. The Zeiss site (usa) lists them. Are they in production yet? I have heard such good things about them, and they are center focus.

Jay,
There is currently a pair for sale along with a photo on Astromart. Here is the link if you want to take a look-http://www.astromart.com/viewad.asp?cid=262187 .
Take care,
Dan

I called Zeiss a couple weeks ago because a local seller had a pair for $500! Turns out they were the earlier version with 9mm ER and leatherette coverings. The last year that model was made was 1983. The 82 and 83 model had T* coatings, but not before. Then there was a gap before the 15X60 was brought back by "popular demand" (if you can imagine a $2,000 binocular being 'popular') with rubber armoring and 15mm ER. That's still a little short for most eyeglass wearers like myself, but at least your eyelashes aren't touching the EPs like the older model. I think the Zeiss techie said that the 15X60 has been discontinued, which explains, at least in part, why few dealers carry them. I didn't inquire about them more because they are WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! If you don't have a fat wallet and don't mind the short ER, look for a 82 or 82 model. Not sure what year the local seller's is, but I can provide you with his phone # if you're interested (send private mail to my CN box). He probably doesn't know, but you can find out by asking him the serial # and calling Zeiss to check what year it was made. He said the optics are in very good condtion. If they also have the T* coatings, it's a heck of a deal for $500!
