Thanks Carol, I sort of built it in my head without plans, I have since added ac power but run the scopes off dc with rechargeable batteries. Also included are pics of 1]of my highly modified C8I mounted on a cart with moniter and recorder for use with a Stellacam II video camera plus 2] Canon 450D attached to a Pentax 500mm f4.5 telephoto on SPMount. My post should read "split" instead of "slit" roof, Howard

I am new to cloudy nights but have been into astronomy for 31 years. I built this observatory over the summer. The building rolls off the telescope. My wife calls it the Outhouse, I am not sure if this is because it looks like an outhouse or her commentary on the amount of time I observe.

Did you build it al lfrom scratch, or did you start with an existing structure and modified it?

Thanks for sharing!

skybsd

Carl, a warm Welcome to Cloudy Nights! It's kind of you to not only join this forum, but to post your photo of your, uhhhh "Outhouse"

Most of us have named ours, it seems as though your wife did the "favor" for you!

Looking forward to hearing more from you on the forum. Thanks again!

I built everything myself over two week ends. This includes the 1000 lb concrete pier.

Thank you for the warm welcome.
The observatory’s official name is The Notch Observatory, named after the small mountain we live on; but my wife still calls it the Outhouse. The observatory is about 6 meters from my bedroom door so I can be observing in about 4 minutes under dark rural skies.
This is the life.

Hi everyone. I have been reading the forum but this if my first time post. Been building a home+observatory for past 18 months in mountains of North Carolina and it is almost complete. Suggestions and links from this forum were invaluable.

See web page for more details.
