Hi Lee,

Welcome to Cloudy Nights- your observatory will be great, but your braille Astro Pictures are a tremendous and truly inspired idea

Look forward to seeing more of you here.

Thanks Steve it has been a real thrill for me to see
the look on the blind kids faces when they feel the detail
that I can make in copper sheet. Some of the blind
adults that once had sight said it was like looking in
a telescope again. Its very fun to have a star party
with blind kids and show them what they have only dream
about.

Here are some of mine as I was building it. It's a 10 X 10 with a Pod dome on top. The entire roof moves about 10 inches north and south and this gets the Pod dome clear of the zenith. The CGE 14 is at home and happy. I have added stone skirting around the bottom , but have not taken any pictures of it yet. I'll be adding a warm room next Spring.

It was dark out , but the dome went on with the help of my wife. She also bought the dome as a birthday gift for me. Thank God for such a great wife.

I stained the floor also and it came out O K .
I did all of these things by myself and with out a clue as to what I was doing. No it didn't happen over night and I made a bunch of errors along the way. With all the user groups and C N postings on Observatory building I was able to pull it off. So thanks to everyone who has ever posted on how they built and did things. With so much information even I was able to build one.

These observatories are incredible. Does anyone just set up a telescope in the backyard too? That's what I do.

I didn't want mine to spoil everyone's view to the hills through our field so I kept it low. My 12.5" Newtonian fits nicely in its horizontal position.

OK, let's try this again:

Peter, Welcome to Cloudy Nights, and to the Observatories forum.

What an innovative Observatory! You just might have your arm twisted to start a thread, going thru the building of it!
