Ha, ha -- yep, the plants and grass are real. This was the only way I could convince my wife.

jrcrilly, wow, I've seen pics of your observatory before, in fact it is the inspiration for what I plan to do (hopefully) next year. Good to know where the idea came from!

I have posted a picture of this observatory before at 4250 feet elevation in North East California. But it now has a new pier, equatorial CGE mount and a Takahashi FS 152

Thank you-----The reason its in 2 or 3 pieces is that I extended the lower piece that used to support an LX-200-----I'm kinda glad I did since the metal part of the pier now weighs 175 pounds

Its supposed to clear up in a couple of days. But I am not really complaining---we are still in a bad drought here!! I don't expect a reply since this is not on topic----

Hi Idahoman.
Nice looking Obs (and yard).
Is that fence on the property line? If it is, did you have to get a variance to be able to build next to the property line, or do you not have set-back rules in Idaho?

Not quite an observatory so hope you don't mind my putting it in this thread.

When it's 0 degrees or below, this makes astrophotography possible for me. I have a small heater in there set at about 40 degrees, fine when I have ski pants and a parka on! My Mac also appreciates the above freezing temperature.

The base is nothing more than a 4 x 8' sheet of plywood. The structure will eventually be integrated into a roll-off roof obs.

Looks like you do some observing from there, I think that qualifies as an observatory to me. Congrats on your ingenuity, I live in snow country also and I have a 4x8 warm room in the back of the observatory under the roll off roof where I keep a catalytic heater also. However, having the scope set up on a rock solid mount and constantly Polar aligned is worth its weight in gold. The other night I took some photos at around 8 pm. put the CGE in home position and hibernate. Went to bed, rolled the roof off again at 3:30 A.M., woke up the CGE and started taking pictures of the LULIN comet since it was still aligned perfectly. Really convenient---------!!

Thank you doctor!
I've noticed that posters who have the kind of set-up you have are so much more productive than the average astrophotographer. The weather here is so iffy that I'm always hungry to do more imaging. This was my first step en route to an observatory where I can have my equipment ready at a moment's notice.
Thank's for the encouragement!
