I have a Bogen 3233 arriving in the next couple of hours and my DSV-1 should be arriving tomorrow.
I will be setting it up with my WO 80mm and will let you know if it is up to the job.
If not I will sell it and move up to a heavier Bogen; maybe the 475 or the 3246. I am looking for the balance between performance and portability.

Well my DSV-1 and Bogen 3033 arrived.
I managed to spend an hour outside with them last night and they seemed to perform pretty well.
The quality of the DSV-1 is very good indeed; a lovely finish and a little fine adjusting with an allen key got me exactly the smooth movement I had hoped for.
I will use the setup for the next few days and then write a review but I have to say my initial impressions of the mount are very positive.

I received my DSV-1 yesterday - and predicatably the weatehr is not cooperating. I'm fooling around with it a bit - and wanted to ask you about the allen key adjustements you mentioned. What or how did you determine the adjustment points are best used? I've not messed with them yet - but their function is not immediately apparent to me.
Any insights appreciated.

Hi Jim,
congratulations on getting the mount, I played with mine in the dining room until the bad weather broke last week.
And that is the answer to your question about the allen key adjustments. You will see there are some large allen screws and some very small ones. I adjusted them all in various ways until i got the result I was looking for.
To be fair I could have probably adjusted only one or two but I like to find out what things do so I played with everything. Probably explains why we are on our third computer in 3 years
So my advice would be to set up your scope as you want to use it (diagonal and EP and dew shield extended) and then see what kind of balance and movement you achieve. Then just tighten or slacken a single allen screw and see what impact it has. I can tell you that I have a smooth mount and swapping between a 5.5mm 1.25" EP weighing a couple of ounces and my Siebert 34mm 2" weighing 11 ounces (or my 10mm Speers Waler weighing 12 ounces) makes no difference.
I am writing a review as we speak so hopefully it will be published. I suggest you do the same when it is appropriate; the more the merrier!
Best wishes,
Morris

Pollux:
I like the simplicty of that mount. Looks like it would sit right on my Orion Paragon tripod, too.
Can you lead me to an on-line source for it?
