I had that happen the first time I was under truly dark skies. Suddenly, all the "landmark" stars that guided my view of the sky were lost in a sea of other stars I was not used to seeing! It was a whole new learning experience!

I had the 40 Paragon out again this past Wednesday nite; located M5, and saw some evidence of resolution at 35.5x. I was actually trying to get Palomar 5, but I was too tired out from the day's efforts on the ranch to "get serious". My sky quality meter reading was almost off scale--2 readings at 22.0. one at 21.93, and one at 22.36 (which I promptly discarded as errant). I also revisited M13, and epsilon Lyrae (both E-1 and E-2 split). Had to hang it up at only 22:30--big day the next day.

I am pretty new to the CN forum, at least as a poster. I do allot of reading though! This TMB 40mm has really gotten my interest. I have been trying to find the "ultimate, widest true field of view" eyepiece to use with my 10" LX200 which I acquired used a few months ago. I also have the 35mm TV Pan, which I have been very happy with, but I would like to squeeze a little more TFOV out of the 10".
Are these TMB 40mm Paragon's available to the public for immediate purchase? If so from who? The Burgess Optical site really doesn't show it yet.

The Paragon will be available at a few sources within a few weeks. I think Astronomics - the sponsor of CN is one of them.
Currently, there are only a few paragons in the hands of observers. The first shipment only had about 9. The next shipment is supposed to be at least 100 and is due in "any day". Many (but probably not all) of them are pre sold. There will be a third shipment shortly after the second.

Hi John, Welcome to Cloudynights!
The 40mm Paragon should be a perfect match to your 10" SCT, as well as your 5" refractor and your Newt if it has a 2" focuser. If I didn't already have the William Optics 40mm SWAN, I'd get the Paragon as it's only twice the price and, according to the reviews, provides significantly better edge correction, especially in fast scopes.

Thanks for your review Rodger. Have you had a chance to try it in anything faster than your f/7?

Thanks, Lew,
I had been looking at the William Opitics 40mm SWAN eyepiece too. Maybe I will wait and see if I can get one of the TMB 40mm Paragon's.

So... I checked with Astronomics and they haven't received their shipment from Burgess yet.
Anyone heard whether or not any dealers have received theirs yet? I'm *very* anxious to get my hands on one and try it out - especially comparing to my Pentax 40mm XL.

The first shipment only had 9 or 10 and it's been sent to customers.
A second shipment with around 100 is due in "any day". But Thomas will need to check them over before sending them off to customers or dealers.
And odds are a large percentage of the second shipment will go to prepaid orders. Four of the people in the group I observe with have preordered them.

The prototype eyepiece, without the field stop was 72 deg, but the last 4 deg was not without some lateral color. All of the production e.p.s are 68 deg, or--as designed.

Well, I got to *see* one today at Astronomics, but Mike wouldn't sell it to me, darn it... I'd love to have it, if it was serialized (00001 on the barrel).
Didn't put it in a scope, but I really like the look and feel of it - very nice, very high-quality look. Pete was right on the money - it looks like a $250 eyepiece. The glass looks *superb*. Can't wait to get mine.
Uncle Al should be *very* concerned.

Has anyone compared or have coments on how this new EP would compare with a 40mm MK-70?
Thanks
