That would be difficult, since VERY few of these are in the hands of customers to date. I don't personally own a 40 mm Mk 70.

To answer Preston's question: the cost is $249.00 + $9.50 for Priority Mail delivery.

Has anyone compared or have coments on how this new EP would compare with a 40mm MK-70?

Thanks

John

John,
I've got one on order, and am eagerly anticipating it.
I've used the 40Mk70 in some of your scopes (WO FD80 and Celestron 9.25). I liked it at first, but the more I used it, the more I was bothered by flared stars in it's outer 20%. While I'd recommend it for the price at f/7 and higher, I wouldn't for anything faster.
It sounds like the Paragon is pretty much sharp to the edge.
If money is a large consideration, you can get the 40mm MK70 for around $150. used.

If the weather clears, I'll be able to do first light on my Paragon tomorrow night - but I don't have a 40mk70.

I will do a head to head with a 41 Panoptic when I have time, but that'll probably be a second night out activity.

I truly believe that the Paragon 40 mm will "make a believer" out of you! The cost/benefit ratio is outstanding.

Well, as I should have expected, the arrival of my Paragon ensured at least several more nights of clouds and rain.

The next night predicted to be "Partly Cloudy" is Saturday.

I'm used to TMB optics, so I expect it'll be great. It certainly looks like a first quality item.

But the 41 Panoptic is "the one to beat", so I intend to see how they compare.

Are they shipping to the lowly masses yet?
I'm very eager to check mine out.

I dunno. I was on the waiting list (more correctly, notification list) for ever. The only 2 dealers to have them available are High Point and Astronomics, so a call to either one should answer that.

Apparently the factory has had problems with production, and the latest target date for sending them to TMB is sometime this week.

I'd expect it to take about 3 weeks from when they actually are shipped for TMB to get them, do his final qc check, and start getting them in the hands of customers and dealers.

According to Thomas, there is a batch of 250 Paragons sitting in customs right now! He should be getting his portion late this week, and the dealers a bit later.

I'm going to start a new thread on the paragon e.p.s so we will have a forum for other owners to share their experiences.

Alas, I don't have ready access to a 40 xw.

If anyone in my neck of the woods, or who is attending Stellafane, BFSP or CSP would like to do a head to head between the Paragon 40 and the XW, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

So I've been out of the loop, and now it's too late to go back to search on it: how was the performance of the 40mm Paragon TMB in a fast f/4.9 scope like I have? Was the field flat, and was it sharp & in-focus to the edges?

I haven't tried anything faster than f6 yet, but I've read good reports from others.

I have compared it to the 40 xw, and it was more of a contest than the 41 panoptic, but I still prefer the paragon. (and so does the owner of the xw)
