As I see used PSTs come up for sale, the asking prices are all over the map.
What would you pay for an used PST?
Thanks

What would you pay for a used Ford? Depends on the model, age & condition, as well as on how much you want it. It helps a lot if you can try it out, or at least inspect, before parting with cash.

I think a double stacked PST with a set of CEMAX eyepieces and a dessicant cap should run about $750.

One was for sale on ebay.co.uk last week that I was watching out of curiousity - single stacked, as new with the stock ep etc, that went for a shade over £300...
I just sold my 25mm cemax on there a couple of days ago and got £45 for it...

I'd want to try it out first, that's the only way I'd part with money for a 2nd hand PST.

I bought mine from a fellow here on CN, untried of course. I think I paid around $400, one of the best purchases I've made in a very long time.

Only because of rust issues, you have to at least see a used PST first...Pictures could suffice...I would also check the serial number against the Sick PST thread here in CN, maybe it's been reported as repaired already...Good luck and I think $400 is fair if in good condition...

I got mine used for $400.00, but then found it to be sick. I was lucky because Meade is honoring the warranty and I should have it back in two more weeks. As far as your question it seems the going rate is $375.00-$450.00 used. Biggest question you should have is whether or not its the new front element or old one? Good luck

Its not just the rust issue there seems to be a great variation in contrast also.
The difference in image contrast between the two PSTs I've had is quite noticeable. I'd want to be sure that I wasn't being sold an underperforming PST while the previous owner moved on to another.
I think manufacturing variation in PSTs is much greater than variation in conventional scopes.

Thanks for the responses.
I too have seen prices hover around $400 on auction sites.
Locally the PST seems to sell for $150 - $200 (5 examples).
That is why I asked the question.

I would buy a few of them and pick the best then sell off the others on Astromart. There is a buyer in Russia that picks up about one a month. He bought mine.
