Ya know, I'll bet I'm wrong on a bunch of the items there, I've got it as "repaired with blue objective & ITF/etalon" because I thought that new etalons were being installed too. I'll bet that the etalons are only adjusted and NOT replaced on everybody's scope. It's starting to make more sense... Whatta you all say out there? Do you have NEW etalons, or re-tuned ones? Rich
The exact wording on my paperwork is "Replace objective (on one line)lens and ITF (on second line) clean optics (on third line)." Which could mean they replaced and cleaned the ITF or just cleaned the ITF. I took it to mean: replaced objective and ITF, clean optics. Hmmmm, clear as mud...

Thanks, Michelle & Dave! I edited your respective lines on my master list (a rich text file in the Mac) and it'll appear with quotes around the text to indicate that it's origin is the text on the invoice. Looks like maybe they replaced some of the ITFs and only cleaned others... We'll see! Thanks again! Rich

Just wanted to add that after the replacement by Meade, my PST now works just great. I had it out the other day and it performed as well as could possibly be expected. I have it double-stacked and with a Televue 8-25mm zoom at 8mm there was a wealth of detail visible.
Yes it was a bit of a hassle getting through to Meade to get it fixed, but it was nicely taken care of and I am now a very happy camper - so kudos to Meade for taking care of this problem.

One correction here, 100054 is wrong, that was my failed attempt to remember the s/n 100051 which I sold to Trevor (with a reduced price and 'full disclosure', I hasten to add!). So 100054 may well be bad but it ain't mine.
Glad you got it fixed up Trevor!

Thanks, Brian! Should I enter it like this: 98031 sick - Brian "Solar B" in Scotland. Repaired with new blue objective, new ERF/BF/Spacer. Or what? I'm a little uncertain about the innards of the PST: BF = Blocking Filter, ERF = Energy Reduction Filter. Aren't these basically the same thing? I have to admit, this is the first time I've heard about the Spacer... Rich

Hi Rich , the new pst i have has a small erf in the spacer which is red , this repaired one has a mirror finish , as there is obviously no longer any ER occuring at the objective , and they definately have replaced both the bf and the spacer because i had previously marked them. The work was carried out near london by a Meade trained operative , One other point to note is that the original psts obj have a small central mag lens could this be contributing to the sweet spot "Rrrrrrrrr Jim Lad the Sweet Spot" while the new ones dont have this . Your entry reads fine . Thanks Brian

Well, number 99520 has been returned to me and is MUCH better. The repair slip stated they replaced the objective lens and cleaned the optics. It's now nice and blue again. The turn around time was less than two weeks.......good job Meade . The remarkable thing was that it was clear the day I received it. Imagine that. Optics are much better now.
Cheers,

Received 99729 back from Meade repair in just under 4 weeks with a new blue objective, no occulsions reported by others. Scope appears in good working order.
Essentially a no-hassle no-cost manufacturer repair. Thanks, Meade for backing up the product.

I have just sent my PST in for repairs... I have to say that I too am impressed with Meades response to this issue...I had a few questions that I sent via email and they followed up with a phone call. They have been great about this issue and genuinely show that they want to resolve the issue with the scope. I am impressed!

Hi Richard,
Happy to say that my PST (S/N 94606) is no longer sick. Just received it back yesterday and it is working very well, having checked it out this afternoon. In fact, Meade improved the tuning of the etalon. Before, it tuned just at one end of the range of motion of the tuner. Now, it tunes maybe a third of the way from one end of the tuning range so that I can be sure that I can optimally tune it.
My repaired PST has the blue lens.
Best,
Gary
