01022008 Loops + active region

I think I saw the same nice loop that Darkstar saw - at around 1PM Pacific time. We are due to have clouds and rain this weekend, and I decided to take one last day off before going back to work so I wanted to take advantage of my time and sit down another time to draw. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do while I'm at work - I bring the PST in from time to time so we'll see.. I'm starting to enjoy this enough it might be worth my while to figure out when and if the Sun crosses the part of the sky where there is no tree before I leave for work in the morning..

While I was viewing just prior to 1PM, a nice big cloud rolled over the Sun. I went in and had my lunch and dragged the PST out to another part of the apartment to catch it in a lighter batch of clouds for a few more minutes and I drew a loop near the bottom of the page and the active region. This was about all I could do considering the weather.. and that I had workmen walking around me when I went out the second time!!
The lines that I drew in a clump on the disk of the sun were not dark, rather they were bright against the disk of the sun.

Thanks for the info Dee. All cloudy here, hope it will be clear in time before I go for work in the morning. Yesterday the sun came out just when I was about to drive to work. I could not resist the temptation to get a quick look. Hurriedly took out my PST, mounted on a photo tripod and look. As a result I was almost late for work. Got to stepped on the gas, overtaking any car that is in my way and speed all the way to my office. Got there just in time. phewwww...
But it's absolutely worthy.

The sketch doesn't show up as clearly after I scanned it in unfortunately. The loop on the top was a reasonably large and long one, brighter near the base and dimmer away from the sun. Near the base on one side was a shorter prominence. There was also at the same time at about the 5 o'clock position (as I was viewing it) another loop that was slanted. Maybe I'll darken it and repost it.

Very nice work Dee. It's nice to relax before you have to go back to work. This seems to be a great way to do it. Kinda clears the mind
