Did anyone see a white spot just south of the equator on the east limb today? I am wondering if it is a sunspot trying to form?

I just looked up tilting sun and realized that the PST is flipped north to south. So it would have been just north of the equator.

Maybe I did! LOL I may have seen it before the plage lit up but I do remember that spot standing out enough to sketch...

Hi Colin / Stephen,
That bright plage certainly stood out when I viewed the sun today. Here's a rushed pic of it. The shot's not great, it was shot through cirrus.

I was out observing on West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz yesterday between 12:30 and 2:30, and saw the bright spot you're talking about as well. I thought it to be a flare, as it got slightly brighter after I first arrived then gradually dimmed until it was gone by the time I left.
Seeing was excellent from there, with some hazey clouds occasionally.

I saw that spot this morning and one on the opposite side of the disk as well!

Space Weather:
Quote:
New sunspot 985, which emerged late on March 10th, is already disappearing over the sun's western limb.
This is the same feature I saw on 3/9, when does it become a sun spot? Did this ever look dark in white light? Next time I will have to view in both.
