Well that was fast! new
      #2974520 - 03/09/09 07:20 PM

Got an email from Astronomics an hour ago announcing they had six Lunt 100mm H-alpha scopes in stock for $4095. They were available when I clicked on the email link. Agonized if I wanted to be a beta tester for a scope I could not even pick up until September when I visit family. Fortunately, six lucky/brave folks put me out my misery fairly quickly!

cheers,
Rick

I can't wait for first light reports... 100mm to 150mm seems just about right to me.

It could only be one person. He must have bought them to give as door prizes at the NEAF Solar Star Party next month.

Dang. Too slow.

Well...it's not Ralph, Alan.

I no longer observe or image the sun (too boring during the minimum). Now, I just photoshop people on CN for fun.

I'm giving a 2 hour workshop at NEAF this year:

"How to Photoshop the CloudyNights Solar Forum"

http://www.rocklandastronomy.com/neaf/2009NEAF_Workshops.html

Back to reality now.

I looked through the LS100 in Tucson. Very impressive! It'll be worth the wait. The big knob is a pressure tuner of some sort. To adjust for altitude I guess. Last I heard, the knob was going to get smaller for production.

According to Alan traino the knob will be on the 200's also.It is to compensate for altitudes over 6,000 feet and the pressure (increased) will deform the Etalon just enough to compenste.Clever those Arizona Elves.

Greg,
heavy lifting ... eh ?
Now for a serious question - do you think those Etalons will work well on a Petzval design ?
What kind of results could one expect with one of those 100mm lunts on a Takahashi FSQ 106 ?
Does anyone have any experience with putting a front etalon on a Petzval type refractor ?
Lihu
