Just home from a mini-solar party at Highlands Astronomical Society's observatory just outside Inverness, Scotland. First views showed just a prom in the east and a small filament near the north end of the Sun. HAS member Antony (CNer Spyke) spotted what he described as a "dished area" just north of the centre of the Sun in his Lunt 60mm. A short while later, this turned into a spot. This spot, along with another smaller one close by was also obvious in my PST, which stood up well when it's views were compared to the Lunt. The spots became more developed on the two H-alpha scopes and were also visible through Pauline's white light filter on her ETX125. There seemed to be brightening in the area between the spots but no sign of any flaring on X-ray plot from Boulder

Great report Bill. I missed that, I wish I had taken more time to scan the surface this morning.

As far as we could tell, it only really became noticeable about 13:00. I hadn't noticed it at 12:00, though it may have been there but much less obvious. It was a great session!
