Prices for a new PST...where is the competition?
      #3398066 - 10/19/09 01:35 PM

An interesting Google search...where is the competition for your consumer dollar?

http://www.google.com/products?q=pst+telescope&hl=en&price1=250.00&price2=1,000.00&scoring=p&sa=N&start=0

Could someone explain why the pricing is the same between so many of the vendors.

Thanks

Sometimes the manufacturer/importer will require a minimum sale price if you want to continue being a distributer of their product. The PST to my knowledge is already the lowest cost scope of its type so I think they feel the price is low enough already. Don T. All IMO

I would agree that from a simple Google search a MSP is in effect.

I do recall that Meade's price dropped once Lunt came on line...competition has that effect.

In my opinion, the PST is a mature (and many times a defective) product that has been on the market for years...and the pricing should be lower than it is now.

And so what do you base that on?
Early models had a problem with rust. That's been addressed long ago.
The design is sound and a scope that can be built keeping cost relatively low.

No it has not.

Rust is a continuing problem.

From all indications, it is not if but when your PST will suffer from it.
