      #3406622 - 10/23/09 04:26 PM

hi

I recently chanced on a friend observing through his pst.Having looked at our star through white light some
time back I had it in my head its all the same and had walked past people observing in h alpha.. more than once .. well thats changed now

so what do you recomend to mount it on ? his was on a small eq mount ,, would a camera tripod do?

cheers graham

Yes, you'll usually be using a low magnification & a static camera tripod is fine for visual use. You can even get decent images with a static mount provided you don't increase the image scale too much.

The PST has 2 1/4" x 20 threaded holes. It is heavier than most cameras so it would need to be fairly sturdy. IMO a better option would be a alt/az telescope tripod with slow motion controls. I bought one made by Celestron for abought $100. The slow motion controls make it easy to follow the sun. Don T.

Yeah, there are some rubbish tripods around ... but anything that will happily accomodate a SLR fitted with a medium telephoto lens will happily support a PST.
