Took a quick "Sun break" from work midmorning, through hazy skies. Proms were pretty much washed out, but not the active region, which was shining like a locomotive headlight!  Really bright...makes me wonder if active flaring is underway.
Perhaps somebody with better skies can confirm....

GOES shows it hasn't stopped flaring for almost 2 days now!

I looked at it this morning around 10:00am with a Solar Max 60.
I saw no prominences but the active region was bright and large. It was clear. I'm going to take another look this afternoon.

The area is not really flaring. It is just brightening in the plage, which happens as the new flux emerges in the active region. Local patches will brighten and dim as time goes on, but there isn't much of an overall outstanding spike in emissions. The X-ray flux isn't even breaking the C-level by much, and at active times of the sunspot cycle, it normally sits in the B-level without any flaring going on. The plage is now fairly near flare brightness, but again, this can be fairly common in an active region that is new and growing. Clear skies to you.
