dear all
capturing the sun's limp in overexposure shows always a tremendous "traffic" of very dim objects.
small an big "light balls" , bright and dim, coming up from the suns limb, diving into the sun's limb, making even curves, at different speeds, from extremely fast to quite slow. Oldfield calls them i think "firebirds" . Are they satelites?

Hi Walter,
I suppose that are flies, mosquitos or even birds. I think you can only see satellites on the disc.

thanks for your answer. i cant imaging that flies, nor mosquitos, which we do not have here, nor a bird can fly as slow as that.

well, it could be a big bird flying far away from you.
I sometimes see flying seed in late springtime approaching the sun on my monitor.

Walter,
This morning after seeing your post, I remembered the strange objects that I had seen a few weeks ago while solar viewing. The objects were very small, more like specks, red orange like the sun, and the first objects moved a small distance away from and along the sun's limb in a straight line. About four minutes later, on the opposite side of the sun, there were a few more objects this time moving radially into the sun.
The small size, color, and very high angular velocity of the objects eliminate satellites, birds, aircraft, and insects. I was not going to post this, but later this morning when the sun was up high enough at 0730 MST, I started viewing the sun and was amazed when a 737 got into the landing pattern and crossed the sun obscuring at least half of it. After the passage, I was treated to an amazing sight of the jetwash and its heated eddies and vortices messing up the sun's image by replicating them exactly in my view for about three seconds.
I have had aircraft pass in front of the sun many times before and have never seen this effect. The ambient temperature was only 60° rising from a low of 45° just before sunrise, but the hot jetwash instantaneously changing the temperature of the cold atmosphere made for a very pleasant view.

This is very curious as you are seeing bright spots not shadows as planes, birds, bugs would surely be.....
How is it they are visible as light, or bright objects in H-alpha!?

Jim - My questions as well; this is why I was hesitant to post a few weeks ago and this AM. I also can not emphasize that the angular velocity was very great; orders of magnitude greater than birds, planes, etc.- just like meteors, but in H-alpha.

In observing in H-alpha for about 24 years, I have seen numerous small bodies fly past the edges of the sun or over its disk. Some of this is airborne debris blown by the wind (cottonwood seed "cotton", dandylion seeds, bits of leaves, ect.) while the rest is mainly small insects nearer the scope or birds. When light hits some of their surfaces at near grazing incidence, they can appear fairly bright, even in H-alpha, although more frequently, they only appear in transit across the solar disk. Clear skies to you.

hi all
thank you very much for your reports and explanations. But I'm still not very happy with the interpretation of that object in the movie.
My self I have seen and even captured birds flying over the disc. their outlines are clearly visible and they are dark (shadow). my object is not crossing the disk and still has some brightness and seems do be rectangular in shape.
i will watch out for more of this objects an will report. For a sound discussion we most probably have to distinguish between the different objects (shape, small, big, fast, slow, dark, bright etc.)

I have my first Ha experience in 2003, since then have been observing the sun constantly, I have even posted an observation of two strange object in the old coronado forum which I cannot explain, two star light object with a long tail orbiting the limb of the sun and then suddenly disappear before my eye, very much like the two comets vaporize when it gets near the limb of the sun, like those soho movies. So I thought if comets can be visible in Ha when it get very close to the sun?
Fear being ridicule.. since then , never dare to speak of anything unusual I saw with the sun.
Actually we should not give up or simply assume it of something without really done a thorough investigation.
For that, I praise your courage wanting to find out more..
The only way is trying to capture more of these objects then analyze them carefully to draw a clearer picture to what actually it is..
As for my two strange objects which look like comets.. I know what I saw... perhaps I was plain lucky that I was just there observing when it happens.
