Howdy all;
I have been writing a set of articles called "What's Up" for several years that are posted to Cloudy Nights. The past articles are archived under "Articles" and then "Monthly" from the top of the page.
I have made my way around the sky once and am starting again covering objects within constellations that I missed the first time around the sky.
My request is: if you have a favorite that I missed the first time around, let me know. I can certainly add it into the mix as I write these constellation studies over the next several years.
Aquarius is available from the entrance splash page and the next three constellations are: Andromeda, Orion and Gemini. So, if you have something "off the beaten path", please let me know. Or any other input about What's Up.

Yes Steve, I look forward to each of your postings. I really like the whats in this constellation format. I look forward to your covering objects missed the first time around. Other than that maybe more coverage for smaller scopes. I use my 4", 5" and 10" most often. Irregardless I really enjoy the series.

Steve; sad to say I stopped reading the articles,as I could never equate what everyone says is easy in a 12 or larger inch telescope ,while Im using a 4 inch refractor.
I see you use an 4 inch? in the picture, if this is the case I might have to go back and read all your articles.
By the way my favorite region of the sky is Cassiopeia through Perseus.

blb, I am glad to hear that you are enjoying the articles.
droid, I really tried to include more with smaller scopes, I owned a 13 inch Newtonian for 14 years and so I have lots of observations with that scope. However, as I build up observations with the 4 and 6 inch scopes I have owned for some time there will be more with those instruments.

Actually, it is fun and I enjoy it. I want to thank CN for providing the location and effort to post my ramblings.
One thing, I promise you if you ever plan to do something like this....it will make you really pay attention to what you are observing. With lots of other people using what you say to make up an observing list, errors WILL get found;-)

Steve, your "What's Up" articles are great resources. There's only one suggestion I can think of. I've had the opportunity to browse some of your excellent deep sky sketches in person, and I think it would be a really nice touch if you were able to include them in your articles. They would provide an excellent illustration of what your visual impression was for various objects.

I enjoy the "What's Up" articles, they shed a little light on targets I may not have seen yet. I am usually hunting for certain details on objects, I normally dont mess around with the fuzzies.
Great job Steve, keep up the good work! Would actually like to observe with you sometime!

Hi Jeremy;
Let's see a guy who helped write a book on Drawing at the Eyepiece, or some such title....wants me to start showing my drawings in the articles I write. I think I see a connection.
Or, maybe Jeremy just wants some drawings so he can compare his and say "hey, that must be it".;-)
I can do that, I will have to look at something in the future, I do have the next couple of articles close to done.

I'd like to see more sketches of the targets instead of the DSS images.
Also good, new targets for small telescopes are always in need!

What just came to mind is that I'd like to read about something more than just the descriptions of the objects in the articles. Surely digging deeper takes a lot more time but also makes the articles better and more interesting to read.
And from CN's part... maybe some more visibility to these monthly articles. I only browse the few forums in here so the fault is partly mine but I am amazed at how much stuff there is in the articles section. Great work you writers!

I thoroughly enjoy your contributions both here and on the SAC site, Steve. I'd like to echo what Swamp Fox said about the 4" refractor perspective.
A few others also mentioned including some of your eyepiece sketches which I think would be a very nice touch.
