I was out in my backyard and observed mars for the second time on Sunday morning November 08 at 3AM EST. I observed what I think was one of the Martian Moons. Is it possible to see one of the Martian Moons from earth and if so which one? I tried finding an interactive online source but no deal.

Hey Jav. With the right conditions and equipment you can definitely view Phobos and Deimos. Although you'll probably need to make a mask to block out the glare from Mars. There's a good article in S&T with java window LINK
I made a mask and saw them during the 2003 opposition with an 8-inch reflector. Give it a try and tell us how it goes!

Javier, You can use Stellarium to see if Mars was passing by a star and also see the position of the Martian Moons. I observed Mars last night as well and noticed a star fairly close to the planet. Seeing Phobos and Deimos would be great. Maybe I'll get lucky this opposition. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Steady Skies, Dean

Hi Guys,
It may have been Assellus Australis magnitude of 3.90. Only time will tell. I was still amazed that I was able to see detail in Mars for two nights in a row. This morning I went on a double star splitting spree and mars was the icing on the cake.
Jav
Thanks,
Jav
