I am still listening to the press conference (Nov. 13th), but from the looks of things, LCROSS did find LOTS of water (several bucket-fulls released by the impact). The images also showed the plume a bit better than the live images from the spacecraft showed. Congrats to the LCROSS team!

I wonder if this could explain the lack of a visible plume that many were expecting? It seems a high water content could constrain the size of a plume.

The images showed a very large plume (roughly 10 km wide) but one that did not make it high enough off the surface to be visible from Earth all that well. As explained in the press conference, the shift in the impact target location from Cabeus A to the floor of Cabeus caused the plume to be hidden largely behind a large hill-like feature or superimposed on brightly illuminated terrain, although some of the ground-based observations showed a spike of Sodium emission above the surface. Clear skies to you.
