Still, that's not going to happen under normal use. Just for grins... I just sat on the chair and asked my wife to sit on my lap, and do the macarena ... I can report back that as anticipated, the wooden dowels did not let out a peep, squeak or groan.... though as wild as the macarena can get, I can also say we didn't get anywhere near the multi-ton cross grain static bending modulus of rupture for oak and cherry reported above. Worse case scenario... e.g. an entire star party joins in my experiment, I'd probably have to cut a replacement dowel. The wood looks better as well. You have a beautiful and highly functional chair. I love mine at the eyepiece, especially sitting at the scope with it pointed at zenith or near it.
