Lunar Links
      #136848 - 06/29/04 02:50 PM

Here are some links to matters lunar that many observers find usefull. Several of these first came to my attention thanks to the work of Ron B[ee]; the rest are contributions by regular CN members who enjoy moonwatching:

Lunar Photo of the Day

Virtual Moon Atlas

NightCal A calculator that shows phase and libration.

Digital Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Moon

ALPO Lunar Section

Sheboygen Astronomical Society: Current Moon Phase

GLR Group (Geological Lunar Researchers)

Yahoo's Lunar Observing Group

Consolidated Lunar Atlas

Astrogeology Research Program - Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature-Lunar

Inconstant Moon

Observing the Sky

Lunar Transient Phenomena

Named Lunar Formations ("Huge list of lunar features -gosh - one lifetime ain't enough!" Ron B[ee])

Lunar Calculator

The Lunar Republic - atlas

Lunar Eclipse Calculator

Lunar Rayed Craters

Walter Lunar Sunset Ray

Robinson Lunar Observatory

Chuck Wood's Moon

Nasmyth & Carpenter Ch. 7: Topography of the Moon

Apollo Image Atlas

Apollo Lunar Surface Journal

Volcanic Lunar Domes discussion group

LPI Lunar Map Catalog

Peter Lloyd's Lunar Pages

Planets Observatory Alpha by Giorgio Mengoli

Lunar Resources from the Center for Planetary Sciences - Northwesten University

Meteor Strikes the Moon

Moon Rise A small utlility that gives just what it says. Handy.

We have a great list growing here, folks. Keep them coming!

Hello there Tom,

More inclusions for your fantastic lunar links ...

Although this one isn't strictly about the Moon, I've found many good observing tips here.

Tom,

Here's another GREAT lunar site ...

http://www.lunarrepublic.com/atlas/index.shtml

I just found the name to the stunning feature we observed at a dark sky site this past Sunday, the Vallis Alpes. It looked like an angelic artist took an exacto knife to the surface just to make this phenomenal gash. I sure hope it's in the Lunar 100. I'd like to know what made it, etc. For now, add this link. It's great and interactive, with the name appearing as one draws the mouse over the many features of our neighbor.

Ciao amigos,

CDS

That is a good one. It wasn't on the original list because at the time they'd gone off-line for some reason. I'm delighted to see they've got that back up and running.

Tom,

Somewhere in a Sky & Telescope sidebar within the last 18 months there was a url listed of someone in Asia that had created an entire guide to the moon in pdf format. I want to say he was in Singapore, but I'm less sure of that, could have been Taiwan or Hong Kong or Japan (duh, how about all the Far East to narrow it down a little :-) Anyone out there in cyberland know what I'm referring to?

Thanks,

CDS
