Media: Black Strathmore Artagain paper, white Conte' pencil and crayon. Scanned in Photoshop with slight adjustments to contrast and brightness.

Acquired with Maxim DL
Guided with Toucam webcam via Maxim DL

June 17, 2007 from central NC
22x60s, ISO800
Darks and Flats applied
Conversion, calibration, alignment and combination using Deep Sky Stacker
Levels and Curves with Photoshop CS3
Postprocessing with PixInsight

NGC6888 - The Crescent Nebula in Ha and OIII narrowband color:
Telescope/Mount: Stellarvue SV115 at f5.6 with Televue 0.8 Reducer. Mountain Instruments MI-250 mount.
CCD: SBIG ST2000-XM with Astrodon Ha and OIII filters.
Image Details and Processing: 6-1/2 Hours Ha (Red) and 12 Hours of OIII (Blue) in 30 minute subframes. Captured with CCDSoft and CCD Commander, combined with CCDStack, processed in Photoshop. Synthetic green channel created with Noel Carboni's Astrophotography Tools.
Date and Location: Denver, CO. May 30 - June 9, 2007
Film Astrophotography's Finalist - mnaf:
M13 from June 2007.
Taken just south of SF, CA.
Orion 8" newt. on an Atlas EQ-G autoguided with a DSI.
Minolta Maxxum at prime focus.
Combination of 2 shots with Fuji SHQ400 - 3m and 4m exposures. Developed to straight to CD (jpegs).
Processed in PSCS2.
Cropped version of M13 - resized to 800 pixels.

Phil G's NGC6888 (The Crescent) shows more detail, and more sharply, than any other photo I've seen of this object. It is the ONLY photo I've seen that shows the nebula as it appears in a 28-32" scope with an O-III filter.

Does it appear that way naked eye in a scope of that caliber? (I'm not too familiar with DSO viewing).

Wow, 18 hours of exposure on NGC6888! That's hard to top, what a ton of effort. Outstanding image.. would love to see the full size version. However, I voted for Erika because the artistry and detail in the solar prominence is superb quality.

Thanks Don! Boy I'd love to get a look at it through a 30" scope.

My vote is with PhilG! that image is absolutely fantastic. Tour patience and talent are second to none.
All the other images are superb, don't get me wrong. Far far better than I could muster.

These images are some of the best I've seen by "Amateurs" in the different catagories.
Each one has it's own beautiful qualities. Hard to choose "JUST ONE"!

All of the images are outstanding. However, each time I compare sketches to photos I would prefer to have a separate category for photos and sketches. Each medium is unique in the talent and equipment required for the end results. Photos require a great deal of experience as well as specifi equipment. Whereas the artist translates what he/she sees and renders it on paper. Many of the sketchers manage to produce an image that may actually appear to be a photograph. I suggest monthy contest for both the imager as well as the sketcher. Would the "powers to be" please consider this request?

Thanks everyone. And my goodness, the images here are amazing. Each month, I'm blown away by the talent and dedication by the entrants here on CN.
Dave, as for the separate categories, we do have a separate sketching 'contest' in the sketching forum. The winner of that each month represents the one that goes on to this over all imaging contest.
If you think about it, how can you compare a CCD to film or digital? And then there's the beginners going up against the seasoned astro imagers. Each is a unique category and really is difficult to compare against the other.
But the main reason for this overall contest is to share what is going on in the other forums. As a sketcher, seeing the other entries always spurs me to have a look at the work that's being done in the other forums. Amazing stuff!
