I have been able to take some nice photos of the moon, but as you see by my avatar, not so lucky with Saturn.
Hi Starshooter,
My first thought after looking at your avatar was, "What is wrong with that shot of Saturn. Nothing!" Good photo!
Looking forward to hearing more from you. Welcome to our little asylum here on CN!

Well, I think my 8SE has enough stuff on it. The part you don't see is the three wheel carrage that the scope sits on. Having a rough time getting a good picture of Saturn but it will come around soon !

well i may have the OLDEST nexstar here, its an original nexstar8 model. no I or Se, just the nexstar8. took off the reddot finder and got a 8X50 explorer scientific illuminated finder. also got my piggyvack mount with my sony nex3 attached, with its 55-200mm lens. dew shield there, sadly i forget it ALOT outside (doh) attached on it sadly is the original celestron silvertop 40mm ep. but rarely do i use an ep. more often than not its got my samsung sdc435 on it with a GSO .5 reducer. at times i will attach the sony to the visual back for some astro pgotography, but more often than not its the sammy doing live web broadcasts on NSN and another site. Videoastronomy.net, quality of photo is bad as it was taken with my cell phone

sweet good to see someone else using an "ancient" nexstar. gotta say though, optics on it are very good. i was very surprised at the quality when i bought it from the pawnshop. \was a steal cause the guy hd no idea how to work it, so when i showed him the battery cage had corroded, and that the focuser didnt work he Dropped his price like a stone. got the scope, 4 ep, a onlf microsoft cam, ep case, the rs232 cable, and a usb to serial, 2 power cords and a red light for 400$. that was 6 months ago, totday its not even the same scope. all issues i fixed myself, all the new additions, and im ordering a motofocus. so at this point i have skyxpro 6, so i literaly once alligned, can do all my work w/O touching the scope. that was a dream to have a remote controlled scope i can do videoastronomy wiht. now im just waiting till next feb, when i can buy a new CG-5GT and i think ill be done till i get a new scope. this hobby is worse on my pocket than a boat

Hi ppfilbert, The finder looks great on your 8, does the silver finish match that of the tube and was it fairly easy to install? I'm looking to replace the RDF on my 8 as well.

Time to jump in, I feel - my 8 SE (bought last October, hence the clouds ever since... sorry folks!), Denk S1, Orion 9x50 RACI, Jasper Always GLP, Baader 8-24mm zoom and 31mm, plus Power Tank. If the weather keeps going the way it has been, I'll just keep on with the other stuff in the background

Hi Crudawg,
Nice looking 8se you've got there. Thanks for posting.
Same with you John, nice set up. Looks like a good selection of guitars too. I've had a few in the past. The only one I hung on to is my Fender twelve string model F-55-12.
Regards. Peter.

Hi Peter,
Well, the choices were made easy by the good advice from members of this forum, for which I am very grateful. So far it's proven to be everything I wanted and needed .
As for the guitars, that's only a few of them, I'm afraid. BTW, if you play acoustic 12-string, you must have tendons of steel
Cheers!

With the passing years, I tend to play it mostly as a six stringed guitar. Bought it new in 1973. Worth a bob or two now. Both sons have electrics so I can keep my hand in there too.
How many do you have John and do you play them often?.
Regards. Peter.

I don't blame you! 12-strings sound lovely, but are something of a trial to play and keep in tune . Yes, it'd be worth a nice chunk of change by now, especially as you bought it new (one careful owner ).
Last count was 15, including one bass and two mandolins. I try to get an hour in each day on a different one every day. That way they don't get jealous of each other.
Cheers!

Here's a promo video for our Fort Worth club. My Grandson and I are in it at about 3:03 showing off my NexStar.

Amazing Vid Skip. Imagine the sky in South TX where I work most of the time between Laredo and Eagle Pass... Granted not the SAFEST place in the world to set up in the dark, but just the total darkness out there is enough to make you turn your headlights off for a minute of so and just gaze is awe. I hope I can find a group like that to join close to home!!

Additions include a 10 x 50 RACI finder, WO 2" diagonal, AstroZab dew heater, Orion binoviewers, and a random, still-evolving collection of eyepieces.
What brand of finder scope is this? I thought it might be Orion but couldn't find any finders matching this one on their website. The (carbon fibre?) tube looks sharp with the WO 2".

Latest investment: a side by side saddle, (aka. a "Gemini Bar") to carry my Nexstar 8i OTA and my 4" refractor in parallel, on the basis that either one can be used for viewing/imaging while the other guides when exposure times demand.
I needed an extra 5.5 KG. counterweight too !
Best regards, Tel
