Just got a DVD recorder and need to think about the easiest way to grab some frames off the DVDs . Anyone doing this, and what software are you using.

Most of today's DVD (+R or +RW type) Recorders record video in DVD "VR" format where individual titles are encoded in MPEG2 compression.
Once you've completed all recording and you are ready to make such DVD readable in regular DVD Player or PC's DVD drive, then use DVD Recorder's "finalize" tool to make the recording permanent and readable by other players.
Now bring this finalized DVD "VR" format disc to PC's DVD drive. The files on that disc will be unencrypted VOB files which can be edited by some Digiral Video Editing programs which surely can snap a segment or a frame out of the sequence. But the easier way is to simply play that disc in PC's DVD reader using your favorite DVD Movie Player software. Most of these software can play, pause, and "frame capture" a frozen frame.

Download VirtualDubMod (Free) and it allows you to capture a frame, you can even filter it first to improve the image. You can also use the software to convert the .VOB files to other video formats.
