There may now be a short delay as I am waiting for the felt with which to line the cell to be found. The love of my life is at the " I know I have some somewhere" stage. Dare not interfere, strong lady she is, works part time at the airport kick starting jumbo jets. Not to be tangled with.

Regards Peter.

Peter,

Your pictures look great and they reminded me of another "caution". Make certain that the film is well attached to one of the rings at numerous points (maybe even wrapped around the lower ring) so that there is absolutely no way for the film to be pushed in. When observing with others I've found that someone always wants to touch the film and it would obviously be bad if the film comes away from the edge.

Looking good so far Peter. Now all we need is to be able to see the Sun

Thanks for your comments Mark and keep them coming. I have glue the film to both rings all the way round. I will also glue the edges as well as the bottom ring, to the inside of the holder.

Peter.

Here's my Celestron/Baader solar filter from last summer ...

And it does 'stretch' rather tight, too! I was surprised to see mine tighten up like a snare drum head when places in the direct sunlight.

OK just about finished. Here the inside of the holder with the lining in place. The lining is sticky backed foam rubber.

Fitted to the scope now. Really is a tight fit. Has to be "walked" into place.

Hi Peter,

Very neat job! Like the idea of the velcro as a "belt & braces" approach.

You pictures showed that it was sunny today - so did you manage to do some solar observing?

How much more sunshine d'you want

Now: would you like me to take them off your hands ?

Best regards,
Tel

Sorry Peter, just couldn't resist that one after the Astrofest fiasco !

Great filter, my friend, but at the moment, sorry, still no sunspots !

Thanks Rick, Thanks to you too Geoff, as Tel say's, plenty sun during the day, it's after dark that's the problem.

That's OK Tel, I would'nt let it go either. Thanks for your kind comments

Thanks Art. Yes I managed half an hour at the eyepiece but as Tel say's, not a spot to be had. Still it works a treat. Will take a pic as soon as my camara attachment arrives. (the one that Tel has.).

Regards Peter

Peter,

Very nice job, solid and with just the right amount of "slack" in the film.

Now you'll never look at deep blue skies the same again.

Hi Peter,

I am in the middle of making a dual porpose visual/imaging filter system. Do you remember what type of glue you used to adhere the film to the cell rings. I'm using a thin PVC rings so I can interchange the different cells. I will post pictures once I've completed the project.

James
