OK, how would you like to see this in your local real estate listings sometime?
It is a "base" created as an add-on for the free space simulation software ORBITER:
ORBITER Space Flight Simulator
The spacecraft on the landing pad is the Delta Glider, a "Single Stage to Orbit" spacecraft which is a lot easier to fly than the space shuttle (and can do more too). I have this base positioned at the real geographic location of my home, so I couldn't resist playing around with PhotoImpact a bit on it.

Ah, but the lights are only on during the brief period around takeoff and landing (like many rural runways, they can be remotely activated). Besides, with the ability to get to altitudes and views like the one below, lights are not much of an issue:

Well, it would be expensive to say the least (but at least the simulator program ORBITER is free). Here, just for fun, I decided to take off from my home and head to space (altitude something around 50 km or so):

Home next to the runway. Hospital only six blocks away (just in case). That's called forward thinking.

Well, I have to move, as I picked this new ship up at a garage sale and don't quite know where to put it. Anybody recognize it? (hint, it is from a 1963 TV series).

Well, I put the big one at the Kennedy Space Center (they have more room). I got this next little bad boy from a nice looking guy named John Sheridan (Babylon 5 fans take note). He said he used it only once to land on Mars (prior to getting beat up and kidnapped in a bar), and he didn't think he would have much need of it in his new job.

OK, for something a little more "down to Earth", here is "my" NASA T38 jet just after takeoff from my home spaceport.
