Nebula - Visible, Infrared and Oxygen
      #3205627 - 07/08/09 05:26 AM

Funny what you'll do when you can't get back to sleep, like working several nebulae pics at once; then it hit me! Since I don't have my very own orbiting survey satellite with multi-spectrum imaging capabilities and building one in the back yard is rather pricey these days, I'd do the next best thing, I'd paint my stellar object and then paint my own survey. Tip: this is the less expensive version to the backyard satellite-rocket-launch pad construction project. So. here's the small version showng all three images, which I will be posting back here on this page once I get some sleep, finish some editing on the images and clean up all that construction equipment and rocket fuel out of my backyard!

1) Nebula in visible light
2) Nebula in Infrared light
3) Nebula in composite, showing areas of oxygen. A large area around the Cat's Eye Nebula was done in similar fashion to show surrounding envelope of oxygen

The Double Ringer Planetary Nebula (Horseshoe and Omega were already taken). Show in visible light, infrared and composite, highlighting the areas of oxygen. Thinking about the science for the double rings ... after some sleep that is, ciao all!

The work was really an off-the-wall moment I had and as I have many of those, I often pause every few years or so and look at what I was doing then in order to see whether I am still being creative or just losing my marbles!

Thank you for taking time to comment. Be good!

Ken
