An interesting read - while I don't see a carbon tube in my future, I assume the comments with regard to the optics, focuser, and other mechanicals would also be true of the SPX line.

You are quite correct. The SPX base model can be upgraded in the focuser and mirror departments to match the specifications of the CT range.
I would love to see a carbon tube in my future for my home-made scope
