The Skylight F15: 100 years in the making!
      #3292948 - 08/25/09 10:44 AM Attachment (58 downloads)

Somewhat uninspired by the achromat refractors available today, I decided to do something about it.

The goal of the Skylight F15 was to fuse a classic English long focus achromat refractor (like those from T. Cooke & Sons) with 21st century materials. Originally conceived 2 years ago, the search for suitable components caused the project to be shelved more than once.

This is a high specification telescope designed for the individual. Featuring a diffraction limited 4”/F15 objective and state of the art, Baader Steeltrack dual speed Crayford focuser.

Designed, and assembled by hand in the UK in extremely small quantities. Where possible, components are sourced from within the UK, including some bespoke parts. As it is hand assembled (& in the case of some elements, hand made), each example is individual & unique. Where required, the metal parts are prepared & polished by hand.

THIS IS NOT A CLONE. The Skylight F15 is about pride of ownership, a telescope that is not found at every star party or society meeting, and the pleasure of owning & using an instrument that is like no other. Due to its’ hand-made/assembled nature, even its’ few siblings are slightly different.

I will be adding other options as time goes by, including a custom serial number option. Want the ultimate birthday gift for an astronomer? Their scope can be given that person's birthday as a serial number.

The Skylight F15: 100 years in the making!

Who is providing your objective lenses?
Antares made an excellent "Vixen Spec" 102mm f/15.

Very nice Richard. A proper telescope.

I think you could sell a few of the brass finder scopes as well as the complete ota's. The finder rings are very well done also.

Sorry, I've decided not to reveal that bit of info.

Thanks. Couriers make it a pretty small world! It's long though...shipping to the US would be around $250...

Thanks...I hunted high & low for finder rings, then decided to have these custom made. I was considering making these available for sale, but not the finderscope itself. The scope has just received a very favourable review in the December issues of Astronomy Now (UK magazine). I'm hoping to have a batch of 10 completed by the end of January.

If you'd like more information on the scope, the link below will take you to lots more pictures!
Thanks to all for your interest.
