I have made some major changes to my website, now all 200 of my Lunar images have lunar descriptions, information and a map showing the named crater and other craters in the close surrounding area. Before I had no crater description or information,I have spent a little over fifty hours making these changes over the last six weeks, hopefully this will make the images more interesting and informative to visitors.
I also plan on adding different pages to tell in detail my imaging processes and other things at a later date, if you want to check out the new changes below is a link (same old link)

Wes, I love the changes, especially the text and regional VMA shot. The one thing that never changes is the quality of your superb images of the Moon. Pure mastery!

Wes,
Just when I think your images at your web site say it all, you improve things again. Excellent!

Hi Rich,
Thanks!, actually the map images came from this web site (what a long URL)

Oops, sorry, those USGS gray maps look very much like the VMA maps Wes. Anyway, I like the way those maps place your superb image collection within the context of the lunar region. You probably know are my lunar imaging hero, I have studied so many of them and only scratched the surface of the details found in each one.
I'm trying to climb the curve as a lunar imager and my dream would be to be able to produce images that are sharply focused and as detailed as yours. I know its a dream, but I've got to aim high to improve. I'm preparing a 16" scope for this endeavour. The camera will be held at prime focus, no elliptical diagonal. It will be a very simple scope, devoted entirely to the Imaging of the Moon and Planets.
Wes thank you so much for providing this gallery of high resolution images for review by all those who love the Moon.

Hi Rich,
I'm glad to hear you will have a 16 inch scope sometime soon, keep after it and you will get images as good or better than mine. One very important thing with large primaries is that to achieve good images the primary must be within one degree or less of the ambient air temperature and with out some form of very good active cooling (like Bird's setup) the only way to achieve that is to do your lunar imaging from about 3am till dawn after having a 16 inch or larger fan blowing to the back of the primary for at least five hours previous. I said large primaries but actually the cool down time has more to do with mirror thickness than diameter.
Thanks,
Wes Higgins

Great update Wes - if you can called 50 hours an update - more like an overhaul. I always find reference images very helpful when I want to view features that have been captured. Thanks for your efforts.

Wes Thank you so very much for introducing me to your web site. I have just begun to study the moon more in depth, and with your photos, it makes viewing the moon much more easier. Cheers, Rick in Tennessee

Great images. Likely the best I have seen.
Perhaps when you next create one of these amazing images you can do step by step indications of how you did the processing. Include both the finished image and the raw data (I know, size may be an issue) so that anybody who wants to follow along can start with the same data and take the same steps to 'see and do' to come up with simular results. This would turn into a really good self training document to allow others to learn how these images were processed to create the end results. Thanks for maintaining such an amazing website.
