Not sure yet, but it will be on the 11 pm news here in NC. Meteorite comes through a Dr's office ceiling in Virginia some where and land in the floor. Looked to be the size of a tennis ball.
Details at 11.

Thanks for posting that! I'd heard nothing on the news. Lucky no one was injured.

Meteorites are rare enough, but one hitting an occupied building is incredibly rarer. Then to have one that weighs in kilograms... I guess if it were a palasite it'd be even more unlikely.
What would you do with such a find? Have it analyzed and logged as an official meteorite? Hold onto all, or most of it as a family heirloom? Cut it up into itty-bitty pieces for sale? Donate it to a museum? Auction it off for charity such as the relief effort in Haiti?

If it falls on Your property, does it automatically belong to You? From older events we learned that the police might taken the "samples" away to be investigated on radio-activity etc...

and if you file a claim with the insurance company, then they become involved
I am about 15 miles from the University of Arkansas (where the Meteorite Magazine is published), so I would start with an ID from them.

In the US, the meteorite belongs to the property owner.
In this case, the owner donated the meteorite to the Smithsonian. (not what I would have done obviously!)
Had he not donated it, he could have sold it for about $20 a gram. (give or take)
If it were me, I would have made a quick snap decision, based on the likely type of meteorite. If I judged the meteorite to be an ordinary chondrite, then I would keep it. If the meteorite appeared to be a rare type or significant to science (like an achondrite or lunar), then I would remove a portion for myself and then donate the rest to science.
In the case of ordinary chondrites, there is little they haven't already taught us. Science would not suffer for having one less OC.
Well, I bet when hunters showed up and started buying everything that meteorite touched/damaged (like ceiling tiles), that doctor started having second thoughts about donating it.
Oh well, he's a doctor with a private practice, so he's probably not poor anyway.
Best regards,
MikeG

Good article! Here is another one - it looks like a battle is brewing over the ownership rights of the stone...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/28/AR2010012804235.html
Does anyone know if any other pieces have been found around the area of the office building?
Best Regards,
- RF
