Ging-Li (AKA Mathteacher),

I thoroughly enjoyed your review of the Vixen 100EDSF. Your assessment of this scope certainly rings true with my own experiences of this scope.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this instrument and some pretty pictures. Wishing you continued clear skies.

Best wishes,

Neil.

Neil.

Yes a nice review. It parallels quite closely my experiences with my Skywatcher 100ED, although I rarely have dark enough skies for dim fuzzy DSO's.

Very good review, comprehensively written.

The "faint purple halos" observation (even around Saturn) is puzzling. I never noticed that using a Sky-Watcher ED100.
If anything, the S-W was somewhat undercorrected in the red and one could see some ruddy coloration in the diffraction rings of very bright stars at extreme magnification.
But, mebbe my eyes aren't particularly sensitive to light in the blue-violet (getting old ).

Clive, this is what I see in my Skywatcher 100ED, a minor tinge of red fringes on bright planets and stars. Following something you suggested, I use a prism diagonal which mutes the red fringes a bit. Star testing with my 3.2 TMB Planetary eyepiece, I see distinct although colorful diffraction rings on both sides of focus.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone.

Clive, I did not notice the purple halo in the beginning, but now I can definitely see it. Again, it is very faint to my eyes.
